History

The Saudi Otorhinolaryngology Society (SORL) began in 1987 with six ENT surgeons aiming to unify professionals and advance scientific knowledge in the field, gaining official endorsement from King Saud University for growth. Key milestones include launching the Bulletin in 1990, establishing the Saudi Journal of Otorhinolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery (SJOHNS) in 1997, expanding branches across KSA, and growing membership significantly, fostering continuous medical education (CME), and setting high standards for the specialty in the region.

  • Founding (1987): A core group of six motivated ENT surgeons in Riyadh envisioned a cohesive body for Saudi practitioners.
  • Endorsement: King Saud University provided crucial administrative support, giving the nascent society a strong base and enabling rapid expansion.

  • Branch Expansion: The society established branches in other regions of Saudi Arabia, increasing its reach.
  • Membership Surge: Membership grew from 95 in 1993 to over 240, with continued increases.
